Solving REAL LIFE, REAL TIME puzzles in a themed setting in order to find the final key and escape the room sounds like a lot of fun for the ones playing the game. The experience can also be fun for the ones watching the game.

When introducing participants to a room escape, Game Masters will generally familiarize the group with basic information and the rules of the game. One point is that the players will be monitored during the whole game. This is necessary for safety reasons and also in order to be assisted in their mission. However, after accepting their challenge and entering the room, some participants forget about the fact that cameras and microphones are turned on at all times. This has lead to funny, weird and shocking moments. Here are our top 10:

1. PDA
Whether it is a couple sneaking a kiss while on camera (we are always watching), or an excited victor bursting from the room and bear hugging one of our Game Masters, there is always some Public Displays of Affection to be found at Last Minute Escape.

2. Losing It
It = Pants. It seems like this guest forgot to wear a belt that evening. Hopefully, this will remain the only incident of this kind. Otherwise we may need to hand out suspenders before each game.

3. Family Feuds
Participant’s relationships can be put to the test under pressure in an escape room. Can we turn family feuding into family bonding? Yes, we can. We make families great again.

4. Perfect Match
Our Valentine’s Special has brought some real surprises. Couples show up and inside the room, will switch partners. As long as everyone is happy - we are happy!

5. Will you marry me?
Do you think the chance of your significant other saying ‘yes’ when you ask the question of all questions increases when they are locked in a room? Well, our success rate on engagements so far is 100%! Popping the question in an escape room can be a strategic move and our Game Masters are happy to play cupids.

6. Like...what???
Unfortunately, some participants will not understand the purpose of their presence in escape rooms. Even after sending a bunch of clues and sometimes even having to spell out the next step, there is no hope. Maybe next time!

7. The emergency
Emergencies do happen and we are not referring to fire, we are talking about real emergencies! Just like it happened to Sal from the Impractical Jokers in our Speakeasy, guests that come to us right after a big dinner, may face not only challenges in the room, but also with their bladders. Oops!

8. Be prepared
How can you impress a first date during an escape room? Be an alpha and solve the puzzles. Unfortunately, that’s not always that easy. Rooms are challenging. That’s why some young men will join us beforehand to play and prepare to come back and do the same room again. We hope they will find ways to further impress their dates beyond room escapes.

9. Tipsy
If you get into an escape room tipsy, it may not be as easy as you think! A few drinks at dinner may seem like a good idea, but the puzzles don’t get any easier with a drink or two beforehand. From our experience, it’s better for a group to get some drinks after trying one of our escape rooms, especially since they’ll have a lot more to talk about after they try it!

10. Enthusiasts
One of the best parts about hosting escape rooms is seeing our enthusiastic customers again and again. We are always thrilled to see our regular guests attempt all of our rooms. We hope you’ll become a regular guest as well when you visit our locations in Wayne, Morristown, Toms River and Montclair!

In Wayne, N.J “Last Minute Escape” has transported you back into the 1930’s to O’Banion’s Speakeasy with all of its danger and grittiness. We have checked you into our Washington DC Hotel Luxeva during the 1980 Cold war to engage in espionage. You have time traveled to medieval times to combat an evil sorceress at the Duke’s Palace. In Montclair N.J., you have immersed yourself in the search for a missing N.J. Senator at the Senator’s Manor.

Now opening soon, Morristown, N.J. “Exit Strategy” presents “Last Minute Escape” Rooms. You will be provided with safe transport to descend underground to the ancient ruins of the powerful Mayan civilization. Your journey will move you through an underground temple abandoned by its creators but still rich in its sculptures, carvings, and archeological treasures. Other treasure hunters have descended into this forgotten world in search of King Pacal’s priceless gem stone but have never emerged. The power of this gem stone is said to give its possessor eternal life. By emerging yourself for one hour in the Mayan Tomb you will be amazed and stunned at the remarkable achievements in astronomy, mathematics and calendrics of the Mayan civilization but your greatest victory if you succeed will be to find immortality in your” Last Minute Escape”.

Will you marry me? One might expect to hear those words at a restaurant, Rockefeller Center during the holidays, or in a beautiful park setting.  All venues that allow for both possible answers.  There are some places however that make it almost impossible to say “no”. If you want to hedge your bet, how about popping the question in the top car of the London Eye or in a sail boat drifting on a moon lit bay or on top of Mount Everest?  Too elaborate and maybe a bit too expensive we have another place that allows for the same captivity along with drama and romance.

That’s what a fine young man last month realized when he called Last Minute Escape Room Escapes and asked the owner if he could bring his friends and family to the room escape game in Wayne. He made one request, he wanted to change the end of the game to have a beautiful engagement ring alongside the key in the final box to be opened.  They arrived and his lovely bride to be was excited to be playing the game. All in her company expressed enthusiasm for what was to come.  She reveled in their excitement not knowing that as the clock was ticking down her life as a single unattached woman was also ticking down. Her fiancé had come earlier in the week to the game location to learn it. Of course if he couldn’t get to that last clue in 60 minutes then “game over” would have a whole different meaning for him. He expertly maneuvered the clues to the amazement  of his unsuspecting girlfriend.  When the final box set before them he graciously gave his soon to be fiancé the final key and asked her to open the box. When she did there was a ring box sitting amongst flowers that Last Minute Escape had carefully arranged.  She looked at it and said “hmmm,  it’s a ring box and handed it to him still frantically looking for the last key to exit the room.  Meanwhile he dropped to one knee opened the box and as she turned to presumably say there was no key inside he said “Will you marry me”.  Their family and friends photographed the magic moment. There was only one minute left to complete the game and in that minute this young lady changed her life and said “yes” through tears of happiness.

Their “Last Minute Escape” experience found the key to their new life together.  Your experience may not reach those levels of excitement but the countdown drama of playing a game that brings you systematically to a place of victory and accomplishment is enough for most of us even without the diamond at the end.
